Black Sheets & Mild Steel Plates in Kenya
Black sheets (also called mild steel plates) are the workhorse flat product for fabrication — tanks, ducting, machine guards, truck bodies and structural gusset plates. Equiserve stocks the full thickness range.

About Black Sheets
'Black sheet' refers to hot-rolled mild steel plate in its natural uncoated finish (the dark-grey mill scale gives it the name). It is stronger and more weldable than galvanised sheet and is preferred wherever the finished piece will be painted or is not exposed to constant moisture.
We stock 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm thicknesses in the standard 4x8ft (1220x2440mm) size. Larger 5x10ft plates and cut-to-size sheets are available on order.

FAQ
Black Sheets — questions we get asked.
What's the difference between black sheets and galvanised plates?
Black sheets are uncoated mild steel — stronger and cheaper, but must be painted for outdoor use. Galvanised plates carry a zinc coating that resists rust and is preferred for roofing, ducting and outdoor applications.
What's the standard sheet size?
4x8ft (1220 x 2440 mm) is the standard. 5x10ft plates are available on order.
Can you cut sheets to size?
Yes — cut-to-size is available on volume orders. Send dimensions and quantity with your quote request.
What thickness for a fuel or water tank?
3mm or 4mm is standard for general-purpose steel tanks; 5mm and 6mm for larger or pressurised vessels. Ask us for a spec based on your capacity.
